Report of Four Wheeler

A four wheeler (car) is an automobile industry product and a huge transportation medium. It is 1886 that is the birth year of four wheeler cars and it provides capacity to 4-10 men to accommodate together. Car was a pure symbol of prestige and power, accessible by few, until it was 20th century that made car accessible to common masses; the very first model is- 1908 Model T, produced by Ford Motor Company, sweeping the animal drawn carriages into history.

ETYMOLOGY-

The word ‘Car’ is originated from Latin Word ‘Carrus’ or ‘Carrum’ , or the Middle English word Carre meaning two wheel cart. All the above mentioned words are originated from Gaulish word ‘Karros’, attempting to identify any horse drawn vehicle. The tag ‘Motor car’ was attached to it in 1895, in British English. ‘Autocar’ which is archaic by now, is actually a ‘self-propelled car’. Also the term ‘Automobile’ was derived from ancient Greek word ‘Autos’ meaning self and Latin word ‘Mobilis’ means movable. Later, this British term automobile was replaced by the North American term Motor Car.

HISTORY –

The first self working steam-powered vehicle was designed and built by Ferdinand Verbiest, around 1672. Later in 1769, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot invented the full scale, self-propelled mechanical vehicle, named the steam powered tricycle. In 1801, Richard Trevithick demonstrated his ‘Puffing Devil’, another steam powered road vehicle. Later on in 1872, Karl Benz is considered as the inventor of the modern car. Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, established by Daimler and Maybach in 1890s. The first American car was designed by George Sheldon from Rochester and he included the feature of gasoline internal combustion engine. It is basically the 20th century from when the mass production of car has started. The Assembly Line style of mass production and interchanable parts were invented by Thomas Blanchard in 1821, later expanded by Henry Ford in 1913. The success of Fordism (high wages and high effectively) was amazing in motor car industries; Foundation of Ford France and Ford Britain in 1911, Ford Denmark in 1923, Ford Germany in 1925. In Europe, Morris outsold Ford by owning 41% of the total British Car production. Especially in Japan, car production was limited till 2nd world war. Later it flourished Mitsubishi, Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, Mazda and Honda. On the basis of fuel and propulsion technology, interface usage, lighting, weight body styles, safety, cost and benefits, four wheeler has immensely modified and now they are even available with air conditioning inside.
